Population Development Agenda : Anthropological Analysis

What is Development?

In the truest sense, ‘development’ means ‘self induced’ rather than ‘thrust upon’ on somebody whether poor, backward or disadvantageous. But, in reality, the ‘development’ is a notion that is being induced by ruling Governments of Nations. It is a misnomer. Unless peoples’ voluntary participation development is not possible and is in the hands of Governance. As such ‘development’ is a mere political slogan in developed, under developed or developing countries. In actuality ‘development’ embraces human interface with geographical, environmental, socio-cultural, economic, political and psychological aspects of human well-being. Politicians use the word ‘development’ for their selfish goals rather than human development by making people believe them and vote them for their governance over them. This is the truth of ‘development’.

Population Development and Government’s inaction:

Self development is key to the population development in reality. In 1970’s the Government of India had taken up a programme of limiting the population growth by coercing people to adopt family planning measures so that the development of the country would be possible. Massive programmes of birth control methods were introduced giving options to male and female equally.

But ultimately the scheme has become a burden of female in the male dominant society. However, people were coerced to such an extent even the then Government was voted against in the next elections. However, ‘population development’ has become only a political slogan with various captions like, ‘We Two – Have Two’ and ‘We Two-Have One’.

National Economy and Development:

It is good to know the reality of ‘development’ in the background of a particular country because it is the fact and truth of all Nations. India stands testimony to it as it claims a developing country by being plagued with corruption, nepotism, despondence and intolerance with social strife of castes and religion. Added to these, the main source of income and economy for the Nation is through taxes, liquor promotion and tobacco products and petroleum products though it claims that the main economy of the country is agriculture. If this is the situation, then how can the Government keep on promising that it would make the country tax free, liquor free, narcotic free zone when its income depends on them and how it can induce ‘development’ through magical political words.

The Nation is aware of, for instance, lot of black money is being maintained by indigenous rich section in the foreign banks. Knowing everything the Government could not able to unearth it, how come then ‘development’ is a cake walk over for the Government, if not political. It is none other than mere poly-tricks of politics to make people believe impossible as possible. Only when any country is free from scams, social strife, addictions of all kinds, there only ‘development’ is possible in all its worth for the common man, who is self induced for it.

Would the country go without these and the government would dare to take steps in putting an end to these? Surely it cannot, excepting making cautions or warnings on all brands of respective products that they are all health hazards and even on video clippings. What else is there to get you know that we stand at cross roads of development.
